The dress project is a synthesis of my experience as an artist, mother, wife and woman in today’s world and culture.  For me the ‘Dress’ image represents layers of the spiritual, emotional and physical essence of being female.  It stands as a multifaceted metaphor for birth, sexuality, a woman’s role to family and society: past, present and future.  The metaphor extends to strength, gentleness, nurturing, aging, body image, beauty, cycles, and other zones to be discovered.

Creating and recreating the image of the ‘Dress’ has opened a floodgate of ideas and emotions for me, and has hit a chord with many other.  There is an intuitive sense of kinship to this project, an innate understanding of the deeper meanings.  Through this project I am facing fears, memories, belief systems, current events and deep emotions in a provocative way.

The creation process of this dress is rooted deeply in the found or chosen materials that I use.  There is the initial challenge to bring the puzzle together while considering aesthetic and artistic standards.  It is clear to me that The Dress Project has developed an energy and momentum all its own.
